Mary Murphy Gillespie - 2003-10-06
After graduation,
I spent a couple of semesters at MU before getting married in 1966. I was
pretty much "A Stay At Home" mom to daughter, Margaret and sons, Rick and
Jason until divorcing in 1982.
Then, even though I was terrified that my brain had turned to mush, I went back to school and received my Nursing Degree in 1985. I stayed in Columbia working at Boone Hospital Center until 1993. I moved to Newark, Ohio (town about 30 miles east of Columbus) to spend time with my parents. I spent the next 8 years working in the ER of the local hospital in Newark. However, 2 years ago....decided that I was getting tired of the daily adrenaline rush..heaven forbid that I was feeling old!!! So, I retired from the ER and now work part-time for a Home Health Agency.
I enjoy ushering and helping with costumes at the local theater group, read mystery stories (the more gruesome, all the better, so guess I still need the adrenaline rush) and spend a great deal of time with my mother since my dad's death in Jan. 2002.
My daughter made me a grandmother in July of this year with the arrival of Madison and EJ. (I bet you thought I was coming to Columbia just for the reunion..didn't you....) My oldest son, Rick is a computer specialist with the Bank of Alabama and lives in Birmingham, and Jason is a real-estate agent and lives in Dallas.
It's hard to
believe that its been 40 years since graduation, seems almost like yesterday,
doesn't it?
