JANE CUNNINGHAM BENSUSSEN
REUNION BIO
2003

After our Hickman graduation in 1963, I graduated from Stephen’s College and the University of Missouri.  I was fortunate to receive a scholarship for graduate school at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, receiving my master’s degree in Communication Disorders in 1969.  At USC I met Gale Bensussen and we were married in the Stephen’s College Chapel in 1968.

My first job was at the L.A. Veteran’s Hospital.  I spent most of my early career in various hospitals working in rehabilitation.  After graduation, Gale worked in sales and then graduated from law school.  Gale and I were married for nine years before children so we had time to travel often to Mexico, Europe and even drive across the country with our dog, a Newfoundland.  We loved our VW bus, camping and skiing.  In 1977 our son, Lane, was born and in 1980 our daughter, Adrienne.

I worked for Daniel Freeman Hospitals for 23 years, beginning as a department head, then program director and finally corporate vice president.  Hospital administration was an exciting career which I enjoyed immensely.  I left the hospital in 1999 but have maintained many close friendships.

We have lived in Santa Monica since 1985 with lots of flowers to satisfy my love of gardening.  My parents were able to visit us almost every year in California and we came home to Columbia each year.  Our children attended schools in L.A., Massachusettes and Colorado.  Lane graduated from Chapman University in Orange, CA and Adrienne is a student at Orange Coast College.
Gale is the President of Leiner Health Products, a major manufacturer of over-the-counter drugs and nutritional supplements.  We are USC football fans and serve on various boards at the University.

Gale and I have been married 35 years, August 2003.  For the past three years, we have spent almost every weekend at our beach house on Balboa Island.  We take our boat along the Orange County coastline and have spent many weekends at Catalina Island.  Our current pride and joy is our English bulldog, Reilly.

Columbia, Missouri will always be home to me.  Sadly, my Dad passed away in 2001 but my remarkable Mother still lives on the farm with her busy, productive life.  She is our inspiration!  My brother, Sandy, is a respected home builder and lives near Mother on our grandparents’ Century Farm.  I still attend my church in Columbia and belong to several lineage groups with Mother.  Most of our family still lives in Columbia so I have strong roots there.  I am always happy to hear from fellow classmates and other Missourians.  Congratulations on our 40th High School Reunion!
